Some 65 pieces of apparatus participated in the Societyβs Third Annual Muster held August 7-8 in Syracuse. Among the participants was a 1927 Ahrens-Fox tractor-drawn 75β aerial Weedsport NY member Andy Henderson and his two sons drove non-stop from New Orleans to Syracuse. The 1,240-mile cross-country trek took four days and 541 gallons of gasoline!
The Societyβs third regional chapter β Southwest Ohio β received its charter this year, and the firstWilliam L. Robinson Memorial Award was presented to SPAAMFAA apparatus and equipment chairman Robert H. Biel. βEstablished to honor our late former secretary β the original hard-working quiet man β the award goes to the member who has given the most of himself to the Society with the least recognitionβ, the May 1970-2 SPAAMFAA Newsletter reported.
Because Dick Horstmannβs Jasper St. mailbox could no longer hold the volume of mail the Society was now receiving, we got our own post office box β PO Box 450, Eastwood Station, Syracuse NY.
